Texas Downtown (TXD) members are invited to take advantage of direct assistance opportunities. TXD offers downtown assessments, strategic planning, and assistance with stakeholder engagement.
Downtown Assessments
The purpose of the downtown assessment is to bring a group of downtown professionals to your downtown, talk about challenges and issues you’re facing, tour your downtown district, meet with stakeholders, and provide a report with recommendations for the different stages of revitalization - short term and long-term.

New Braunfels
The four-hour Downtown Stakeholders Workshop was a great opportunity to strengthen relationships with partner organizations – the 4 hours flew by but was just the right amount of time. I was able to set specific goals for the workshop with Tania in advance; she made sure the group delivered the clarity I was after through interactive exercises. The organizations felt valued and included in the downtown development process. What a great benefit Texas Downtown offers as part of our membership!

Hondo
“The Texas Downtown Assessment completed for the City of Hondo in October 2023 was an invaluable experience for our community. Over the course of a thorough two-day site visit, the Texas Downtown Field Team provided expert guidance and insight, facilitating two well-organized and engaging community stakeholder workshops. Their approach was both professional and personable, making meaningful connections with community leaders and downtown business owners as they explored our central business district, walked the streets, and visited local shops.
The final deliverable—a comprehensive 27-page report—offered a high-level overview of our downtown with detailed recommendations for short-term improvements as well as mid- and long-term development strategies. The team’s ability to recognize both the commonalities and unique qualities of our rural downtown made their findings especially relevant and actionable.
This assessment was an outstanding value for the cost, and we highly recommend Texas Downtown to any community seeking to enhance and revitalize their downtown district. Their expertise, professionalism, and enthusiasm were truly a pleasure to experience!”

El Campo
The City of El Campo was the recipient of a downtown assessment performed by Texas Downtown in 2014 and that was the catalyst that we needed to get our process started. Just organizing the merchants and creating the buzz about the efforts planned set us in a forward motion towards a collaboration that has paid off extremely well by getting all stakeholders involved. Many of the suggestions from Texas Downtown have been put into place and ultimately helped lead to the creation of a Planning Director position to help guide us with updating our ordinances. We have seen a great effort on the part of the merchants to clean up, renovate and create new spaces downtown. It has been very contagious and things are looking great with lots of activity occurring on a regular basis with Farmer’s Markets that the City sponsors and Block Parties that a vendor has sponsored. Many of the buildings that had been vacant for many, many years are now housing a thriving business. It has been a great success story so far and we are still seeing it unfold as we go. We cannot thank Texas Downtown enough for offering a very affordable option to our community to assist us with the outside perspective, experience, and knowledge that we needed.

Mesquite
The Texas Downtown downtown assessment propelled our downtown development program forward in an exponential fashion. This service provided Mesquite with specific, results-driven recommendations. Moreover, the presence of the Texas Downtown experts provided awareness, information, encouragement and assurance that we too could be one of those Texas Downtown success stories.
