Small-scale manufacturing businesses can be one of the keys to a successful downtown. They draw people to an area to see things in the process of being made, they help attract investment to neighboring properties, and they are uniquely of that place. No other downtown has that small business owner, with that brand and that product, anywhere else. These small businesses make people proud of their community and their downtown.

How, then, can we attract these types of small-scale manufacturing businesses to our Texas downtowns? What kind of support do they need from the public sector to thrive? Hear for yourself from three small-scale manufacturers across Texas in this moderated panel featuring:

  • Alexandra Worthington, Lockhart food entrepreneur and owner of Culinary Cowgirls, which won H.E.B.’s Quest for Texas Best in 2016;
  • Micah Erwin, meadmaker and owner of Elgin Meadery, awarded multiple medals from the Texas Mead Cup and Texas International Wine Competition; and
  • Brandi Moore, owner of Elsewhere Miniature Farms in Corsicana and winner of a 2022 State of Texas Small Business Award from the Office of the Governor.
